Lindex, Sweden optimised their
e-commerce warehouse through simulation

When Lindex needed a warehouse adapted to its e-commerce business, Constructor was consulted and asked to test the possible layouts and article placements.

Lindex is one of the leading fashion chains in Northern Europe. In recent years, Lindex has experienced rapid international expansion and sales development and currently has over 470 stores in 16 markets.

Constructor's Analysis & Simulation Tool, C-WIS, was used to design a more optimal layout and material handling setup including incoming deliveries, picking and packing, in terms of processing times, inventory equipment and flow of goods. The simulations were based on Lindex’s historical order data, where article information, along with order  and picking data was imported from their WMS system.

Simulation of various scenarios was performed with different article placements and work flows being evaluated. The placement of the articles was analysed based on business, size and promotional articles.

The C-WIS report included detailed information about the distances articles were moved along with handling , waiting and administrative time for the material flow. The results of all possible scenarios where analysed resulting in a more efficient warehouse layout and article placement  strategy.

Continuous optimisation of stock

The C-WIS simulation also indicates when the maximum capacity will be reached for the current warehouse layout. The simulation when executed, which incorporated increased order and order lines, revealed the limits of the planned warehouse and provided Lindex with the ability to plan for future changes that will be required in their warehouse. This will ensure productivity and reliability for a successful operation in the future as well.
